I too have fond memories of Uncle John from the days when Grandma and Grandpa lived on Mattice Road. While Uncle Bob was the jokester who made everybody laugh, John had his own quiet but effective ways of teasing his nieces and nephews. We won’t ever forget the knee-pinching and tickling we endured as children. I also remember him as my cool uncle who drove a Mustang. I recall driving around the Kingsway with Jan and John in that car, checking out Christmas lights on the mansions. Later, I remember family gatherings at Mineola Road and how John kept Grandma laughing well into her eighties.
As a young adult, I remember John’s probing questions about school and finances. I believe he influenced everyone in the family in the sound management of our finances.
While I cannot attend the reception today, my thoughts are with you, Jan, Jamie, Jeff and Natalie.
My love and condolences, Mike

I was very much saddened to hear of John’s passing. We have been friends since he moved to Islington in 1950. We went through Islington Public School, Etobicoke Collegiate and U of T together and there was hardly a day went by that we did not see each other over those many years. John was an usher at our wedding in 1965 and came to a number of gatherings at our first home in Mississauga. He was always good with math and numbers so it was no surprise to me when he became a CA which he excelled at… that was John’s style- quiet excellence! When we moved to Vancouver in 1972 we still kept in touch on the usual annual special occasions. In the last couple of years we shared emails and memories of those happy years we enjoyed including the Sunday night Lambton rink hockey games with a number of Etobicoke friends. This past April we talked about the days when he would come to my house to watch Friday Night Wrestling and Superman and Charlie Chan movies on our Black and White TV.We had a great neighbourhood full of pals to play games with and bikes to ride and forts to build. John was a great baseball player and we spent a few summers in Central Park and in later years it was excursions to Magnetawan and Montreal in my Volkswagen as I was lucky enough to have a car… great fun indeed and great memories of a true lifelong friendship.I am truly sorry that I cannot attend the gathering on Wednesday as I know there will be many wonderful stories told of this fine man who was my chum for 60 years.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.
Sincerely
