I have often thought of Dave and was shocked to hear of his sudden death in 2011. I only just came across this in Jan 2014. Dave stayed at my place Sydney Australia in the 1980s while travelling and we also travelled together in INdia for a couple of months. Amazing times, wonderful man. His depth, warmth and humour were all much needed by me at the time and I have such wonderful memories. He talked about Canada and his close family often. I am truely saddened by hearing about his death. He was one of those people that come into your life whom you never forget.

I just learned of Dave’s death today, March 12, 2012. Very sad news. My condolences to the family. Dave was a proud member of the New Wesmtinster Police and he was my partner for two years back in the early 1980s. I enjoyed ever minute we had in the patrol car. He was a great friend and some awesome memories. So long buddy.

Dave was a fantastic guy and lots of fun. We enjoyed talking for hrs with him when we had our store next to the Empire. He will be sadly missed. We are sorry we didn’t make his service as we were having one for my father who was also a friend of Dave’s. Our thoughts are with your family and the two guys are probably having a good talk again.Chris Ratcliffe

Although I never met David or any of his family, I just wanted to say that I have heard more good things said about him, than I have ever heard about any one else, in my longish life. These comments came from tennents, workers, shop employees and business owners alike. All have said they never knew a more caring, conserned, hard working individual. He always seems to have given his all for those he knew. He made sure he used local people for jobs he needed done and gave far more than he got. I understand that the fire and time since have been extremely stressfull and that much of this stress could have been avoided if others involved, especially officials, had treated him with the same care, honesty and concern he extended to his fellow man My condolences go out to all his family and the many, many people who knew him and will miss him terrible. He will certainly be remembered as one of the greates men who lived.

We will miss Dave so much! He was a great caring wonderful person! I enjoyed getting to know him over the last few years as he worked so hard on the Empire through the good and the bad times. We hope he is finally sailing around the world in his boat – something he was dreaming about doing when the work was done…:)He will be missed.

It is with much sadness that I heard of the passing of David Kaey. He was a friend of my husband and son and a kind and generous man. I always appreciated his steadiness and unflabbable calm in the face of enormous challenges. He will be greatly missed. I hope he is sailing away!

We were very sorry to hear about Dave. We were in the fire at the Empire building and he was a wonderful, caring man. We thought we had lost our photos but Dave pulled them out of the rubble and dried and pulled them apart for us. That is just one of the kind things he did. He will truly be missed. To his family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
