Donna Marie: In browsing through Mitchell’s site I came across the fact of your Mom’s passing in 2015. Had I know, i would have sent this much earlier. When I had you at HPS in Grade 7, your Mom was such a delightful parent to deal with. She was always supportive of the classroom activities…homework (!) and field trips. She was truly a treasure from my point of view when we went away from the school…I could depend on her 100%. We remained friends well after you went on into higher grades. I lost track of her after we moved to Bracebridge in 1975. Please accept my belated condolences. Congratulations on your lovely family too. I enjoyed having you as a student in Room 206 at Huntsville Public. I retired from teaching in 1998 and keep busy writing and doing community work. God bless you and your family. Gary Denniss

To Ruth’s family: We were very sorry to hear of Ruth’s passing as she was a part of the fabric of our lives. Unfortunately we were not able to be at the funeral. We first knew Ruth from being in the choir at All Saints’ where she sang in the ‘tenor’ section with Jim. The woman had pluck!! When Jim & I (Michele) were engaged to be married, she threw a wonderful engagement party at her beautiful home for us where the choir was invited, such fun! Many lovely parties were hosted by Ruth as she was so giving in her nature. Knowing the story about her granddaughter’s passing, when were were to be married, we asked if the priest would wear the ‘memorial stole’ Ruth had made in Jenna’s memory. During the ceremony our hands were wrapped together by the stole, our marriage blessed & Jenna was remembered (having lost an infant brother in 1959 this meant very much to me). Then when Jim’s son Shane was to be married, my father, Rev. Norm Hare, was asked to perform the wedding ceremony. We asked permission to have the ‘memorial stole’ used also in their ceremony. Permission was granted & we took Dad & the stole to Lindsay, ON to do the wedding. He wore it, wrapped Shane & Stacey’s hands, blessed their marriage & Jenna was remembered once again. A few years later we mounted the production ‘The Sound of Music’ as a fund-raiser for All Saints’ church. I cast Ruth as one of the nuns & what a great nun she made! It was a high time for all of us as we made so many memories & had such fun. Our friendship with Ruth just kept deepening over the years. She was a bright sparkle in our life & someone we will cherish in our hearts always. Please accept our deep felt condolences for your sorrow. Our joy is that we will see her again one day when we meet on the other side in heaven with Jesus. God bless you all. With much love, Michele & Jim Collins

I was shocked to read this sad news by accident today (Dec. 1) and wish to convey my condolences to the family. I first met Ruth when I taught at Spruce Glen P.S. away back in the late 70s and was pleased to know her down through the years through various associations. Ruth made such a positive contribution to the life of our community. She will be missed by so many of us. Love and peace to you all.

Barb and I were very saddened to see this notice. Ruth and Ed were among our favourite customers at Seven Main Cafe while we owned it and it was always a pleasure to serve their Moccachino’s as she always had a pleasant word to say. We would like to pass on our condolences to Ed and her family.
Hopefully the coffee is as good up there as we were able to serve!
