Vera, I was very sad to read of Carl’s passing. I enjoyed working with him and the Shriner’s gang during the fundraising bbq’s you all participated in at Robinson’s Independent Grocer. Carl was a caring man with a heart of gold. I was lucky enough to have the pleasure to have known him. Praying for you and your family at this difficult time.

My grandpa Carl was never a big softie or one for sentimental moments. I think it took some time for him to warm up to us, his new wife’s grandchildren. When they married, our lives and our relationship with Nana looked different, but it wasn’t bad. He was stern and strict at first, but we grew to care for each other as time passed. He taught me to make Caesar salad dressing from scratch, and Caesars for the adults when we had family get togethers. He would even let me have my own once in a while (don’t tell). He was good to my family in a new way and I loved him a lot. He was never a real cuddler (except with my baby sister who was born a few years after he joined our family) and I don’t have many photo-ops captured with him, though, I have his strong arms, and his kind words of support, and his hand in the kitchen ingrained in my memory now. Today, he left us. I wasn’t there, but I hope he knew I loved him; I am confident he loved me. My family will be so different now that we’re without him again.
