The death occurred at Algonquin Grace Hospice, Huntsville on Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 of Violet Blackwell, at the age of 97.
Beloved wife of the late Ralph Blackwell. Dear mother of Donna Koesen of Orangeville, Mary Jane Bell and her husband Charles of Emsdale and Rose Anne Fleming and her husband Grant of Whitby. Predeceased by daughter June Skerritt. Survived by son-in-law Ted Skerritt of Huntsville and her brother Robert Scott of Tavistock. Grandmother of 8 and great-grandmother of 12.
Visitation will be held at the Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, March 23rd from 1 to 2 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Addison Chapel of the Mitchell Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Beloved wife of the late Ralph Blackwell and dear mother of Donna Koesen of Orangewille, Mary Jane Bell and her husband Charles of Emsdale, Rose Anne Fleming and her husband Grant of Whitby, predeceased by June Skerritt and survived by son-in law Ted Skerritt of Huntsville and her brother Robert Scott of Tavistock. Grandmother of Steven (Cathy), Micheal (Jane), Christine (deceased), Frank (deceased), Terry (Tamara), Bart (Janet), Scott (Stephanie) and Julie Anne (Jeff). Great grandmother of Joshua, Sydney, Noah, Nathan, Brooke, Jake, Brevin, Ryleigh, Jackson, Morgan, Anna and Ellie.
Violet attended Stisted Township Public School (Martin’s Siding), Huntsville High School and Shaw Business College in Toronto. She married her husband Ralph in 1936. After the war she and Ralph went into the lumbering business at Angle Lake. She became a secretary, cook, laundress, house cleaner, gardner, homemaker all while being mother to four girls. Violet cooked for boarders, mill workers as well as renting cottages. In the 60’s she and Ralph drove school buses. After retiring she and Ralph loved to travel throughout Canada and the U.S., she was an active member of Eastern Star.
The family would like to thank all their freinds for their support at this very difficult time. We would like to also thank all the nurses for their compassion.
